 U.S Finalizes $20,000 Visa Bond Policy Affecting Nigeria and 49 Other Nations The United States government has officially formalized its visa bond policy, making it a permanent measure that could require travelers from 50 designated countries, including Nigeria, to pay a refundable bond of up to $20,000 before receiving certain visas. First introduced as a pilot scheme in 2025, the policy targets applicants seeking B1 and B2 visas, which are designated for business and tourism. According to the U.S. Department of State, the initiative is designed to bolster compliance with local immigration laws and drastically reduce visa overstay rates.  TINUBU APPOINTS AL-MAKURA AS NEW UBEC BOARD CHAIRMAN

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed a former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, as the new Chairman of the Governing Board for the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).


The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, made the announcement at the launch of the AFD-supported ICT Development Project in 10 selected Nigerian universities.


A businessman and politician, the new UBEC Board Chairman also represented Nasarawa South District in the 9th Nigerian Senate from 2019 to 2023.


UBEC is under the Federal Ministry of Education.


The former Governor has recently been endorsed by some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the North Central geopolitical zone for the vacant party’s National Chairmanship seat, following the resignation of Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje on health grounds.
