 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  “Today, death visited me and took one of the most precious gifts life handed me” — Ubi Franklin mourns his sister


Music executive and entrepreneur, Ubi Franklin, is mourning the painful loss of his sister, who passed away after a battle with cancer.


In a deeply personal and emotional post, Ubi described her as one of the most precious gifts life ever gave him — the woman who shaped him into the man the world knows today.


He wrote:


“Today, death visited me and took one of the most precious gifts life handed me… my sister.


The one who birthed the Ubi Franklin you all know. The one who opened my eyes to what life truly is.”


He recalled how everything changed after their father died in 2004, and he had to live with his sister and her husband in Abuja. It was during a holiday trip she arranged in 2005 that he was taken to Lagos — a visit that unknowingly marked the beginning of his career.
