First introduced as a pilot scheme in 2025, the policy targets applicants seeking B1 and B2 visas, which are designated for business and tourism. According to the U.S. Department of State, the initiative is designed to bolster compliance with local immigration laws and drastically reduce visa overstay rates.  US Urges Citizens to Reconsider Travel to Nigeria Over Insecurity, Poor Healthcare 


The US has issued a Level 3 travel advisory for Nigeria, citing widespread insecurity, poor healthcare, and high risks of kidnapping and violence.


Eighteen states, including Borno, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Rivers (excluding Port Harcourt), were flagged as extremely dangerous. The advisory warns that all parts of Nigeria carry significant security risks and urges US citizens to avoid high-risk areas and remain alert.
