Why it’s time to join ADC – Adeyanju urges Sowore

Human rights lawyer and political activist, Deji Adeyanju, has called on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore to join the growing opposition coalition aimed at defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

Adeyanju made the appeal in a post on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday morning.

In the post, Adeyanju urged Sowore to set aside concerns about how his decision might be perceived and consider the bigger picture.

“Dear Egbon @YeleSowore,

I know you are different and unlike the thieving Nigerian politicians, but please consider joining the coalition. Forget what people will say about your long-standing principles and ideological values. Extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures,” he wrote.

He added that Nigerians would admire Sowore more if he made the “painful sacrifice” to team up with others to rescue the country from the current administration.

“Politics is different from morality and activism; it’s a game of numbers. You have nothing to prove to critics who will never support you anyway,” Adeyanju added.

He ended his appeal by reminding Sowore that even churches are not free from bad elements, noting that his integrity is already well-known.

“Everyone knows you’re uncompromising and different. Just consider the idea of joining the coalition. Respect and love always, even if you don’t join,” Adeyanju concluded.

There has been no official response from Sowore as of the time of filing this report.

The national opposition coalition, which recently gained momentum with the defection of ex-Senate President David Mark and former APC chieftain Rauf Aregbesola to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is positioning itself as a strong third force to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s APC in 2027.
