 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country. A 9-YEAR-OLD ILLINOIS GIRL LOST HER LIFE AFTER BEING SWEPT UNDER A LOG JAM IN THE KASKASKIA RIVER.(PHOTO).

 A 9-year-old Illinois girl lost her life after being swept under a log jam in the Kaskaskia River.


This tragic incident unfolded at 2:30 p.m. on August 2nd when authorities in Fayette County received a call regarding a 9-year-old girl drowning in the Kaskaskia River near Wren Bridge. 


As first responders arrived on scene they were informed that the young girl had been swept under a large log jam in the river. 


Multiple agencies were dispatched to assist with the rescue and later recovery of the young girl but sadly by 3 a.m. Sunday morning, recovery efforts were called off. 


The search resumed the next morning at 8 a.m. and approximately 3 hours into their mission, recovery crews were able to locate and extricate the young girl from beneath the log jam. 


This is a truly heartbreaking outcome. Our thoughts are with the family of this young girl and also with the crews who tirelessly searched to bring a conclusion to this tragic situation.
