Anambra PDP Governorship Candidate Survives Assassination Attempt, Claims It Signals Destiny to Lead

Jude Ezenwafor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate for Anambra State, has declared that surviving a recent assassination attempt in Abuja is a divine sign of his destiny to become the state’s next governor. Speaking in an interview on Thursday night, Ezenwafor recounted the traumatic attack, which left him injured and shaken but resolute in his political ambition.

Ezenwafor narrowly escaped death last month when alleged assassins targeted him in the nation’s capital. “They rained bullets all over my body, but I am bouncing back,” he said, describing the incident as a deliberate assassination attempt. Visibly affected, the politician now relies on a walking stick and walks with a limp due to injuries sustained during the attack. “Today is actually my first day to wear trousers,” he revealed, adding that the experience has been deeply traumatizing but has strengthened his resolve.

Reflecting on rumors of his death that circulated following the incident, Ezenwafor said the ordeal served as a profound life lesson. “It was more a bit of lesson. A lesson in life, to know that I can always die any day, and that I’m not going to die soon,” he stated. He further expressed unwavering confidence in his political future, asserting, “It’s a sign also that I’m destined to be the governor of Anambra State. [I’m] very confident about that.”

The attack has heightened concerns about political violence in Nigeria as the 2026 Anambra governorship election approaches. Ezenwafor’s claims have sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters viewing his survival as a testament to his resilience, while others on platforms like X have called for thorough investigations into the incident to ensure justice and curb electoral violence.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the attack, and no arrests have been reported. Ezenwafor’s campaign team has vowed to continue its push for the PDP ticket, emphasizing policies aimed at improving security, infrastructure, and economic opportunities in Anambra State. As the state prepares for a heated electoral season, Ezenwafor’s survival and bold declaration have added a dramatic twist to the race for the governorship.
