BENUE ASSEMBLY REJECTS TWO COMMISSIONER NOMINEES OVER PETITIONS

20th August, 2025

The Benue State House of Assembly has rejected the nomination of Mr. Dwem and Dr. Yangien Orgugaas as commissioners following petitions written against them.

The development, which reportedly began with debates and allegations on social media before being formally presented through written petitions, has stirred conversations among citizens.

Observers note that the episode underscores the growing influence of social media in shaping political discourse and decision-making. While some had dismissed online criticisms with the phrase “we don’t do politics on social media,” the incident demonstrates how digital platforms can trigger real-life political consequences.
