Detroit man accused of shooting ex-wife at hospital arrested

A Detroit man accused of fatally shooting his ex-wife at a local hospital before fleeing has been taken into custody, authorities said.

Mario Green, 53, was arrested without incident shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday, the Detroit Police Department reported. The shooting occurred before 10 a.m. Friday in the basement of Henry Ford Hospital, where his ex-wife, Latricia Green, worked.

Police said Green allegedly fired multiple shots during a verbal altercation with Latricia Green and then fled the hospital in a 2011 white Dodge Charger. Security footage captured him leaving the facility at around 9:55 a.m. No other victims were found following a sweep of the hospital.

Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison praised law enforcement and the community for helping apprehend the suspect, describing the victim’s death as a tragic event no one should have endured. He noted that Green is considered armed and dangerous.

Authorities said Latricia Green had filed for a personal protection order against Mario Green about a month ago, though it had not been served. Green, who lives in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, is approximately 6 feet 4 inches tall. Images of him and his vehicle were shared during the manhunt.

The hospital briefly closed following the incident but has since reopened. Henry Ford Health said it is cooperating with police and conducting an internal review. The hospital also confirmed it is providing support and resources to staff affected by the tragedy.
