  NINE PEOPLE ARRESTED AS CULT CLASH ROCKS BENUE BURIAL CEREMONY  PAt least nine suspected cult members have been arrested after a violent clash disrupted a burial ceremony in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State. The incident reportedly led to the destruction of homes and valuables, with several individuals still unaccounted for. Tension gripped parts of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State after a violent clash involving suspected cult groups left properties destroyed and several persons missing. The incident occurred in Abenga, Mbakya, and Mbabur communities during the burial of one Dugeri Terhemen, popularly known as “Black Deal.” According to local sources, the burial ceremony was disrupted by clashes between rival groups, leading to chaos in the affected areas.  Enugwu Ukwu Monarch Gives Notice Of Community's New Yam Festival

The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu Ukwu, Igwe Ralph Ekpe has announced the 22nd of August 2025 as the fixed date for the celebration of the community's new yam festival also known as the "Onwa Asato'


In a press statement in his Enugwu Ukwu palace,Igwe Ekpe spoke of the imperatives of the celebration in celebrating the new yam and the performance of other rituals associated with the celebration.


According to the royal father,after the royal new yam celebration,the Enugwu Ukwu community will eat their own yam the following day 23rd of August followed by the Thanksgiving Mass celebration and Church Service on the 24th of August to give God the ultimate glory for the gift of the new yam.


He made reference to the"Ikpo ji' ceremony celebrated on the 19th day of July 2025 which featured the evacuation of all old tubers of Yam in the Nkwo market and their replacement with the new tubers of Yam.
