Ford issues recall for F-150 trucks due to defective rear axle hub bolt

Ford Motor Company is recalling approximately 103,000 F-150 pickups over concerns that weakened rear axle hubs could cause the trucks to roll away while parked or lead to a loss of drive power, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners of affected 2023-2025 F-150 models were notified of the recall on Aug. 22. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that “the rear axle hub bolt may fatigue and break, which can result in damage to the axle hub splines.” Ford said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries linked to the issue.

In a letter to owners, the company advised, “If you hear a clicking or rattling noise originating from the rear wheel center cap, please contact your dealer as soon as possible to schedule an inspection to determine if a repair is needed.” Dealers will replace both left and right rear axle shaft assemblies at no cost. The repair typically takes less than half a day, though scheduling and service demands may require additional time.
