Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv.  Fugitive wanted for wife’s murder in California surrenders in Peru

A Southern California man accused of killing his wife and fleeing to Peru with their children surrendered to authorities Wednesday in Lima, Peru. Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo, 36, turned himself in at Interpol headquarters and is now being held in preventive detention.

Cabrera is wanted on one count of murder in the Aug. 10 death of his 33-year-old wife, Sheylla Cabrera, with authorities alleging he used a knife as a deadly weapon. Peruvian police released a video showing him handcuffed, wearing a shirt bearing the Interpol insignia. Extradition to the United States is expected to take several months, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Their three children were located in Peru on Aug. 16 and placed into protective custody. District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the allegations as “horrific” and emphasized that domestic violence devastates communities and families. Authorities say Cabrera killed his wife at their Lancaster home, north of Los Angeles, before fleeing with the children. Sheylla Cabrera had been reported missing on Aug. 12, and her body was discovered the following day in Angeles National Forest. Security footage shows Cabrera dragging what officials described as “a large object in a large piece of material” from their apartment complex—the same type of material in which Sheylla Cabrera’s body was later found.
