 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment.  Fugitive wanted for wife’s murder in California surrenders in Peru 

A Southern California man accused of killing his wife and fleeing to Peru with their children surrendered to authorities Wednesday in Lima, Peru. Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo, 36, turned himself in at Interpol headquarters and is now being held in preventive detention.

Cabrera is wanted on one count of murder in the Aug. 10 death of his 33-year-old wife, Sheylla Cabrera, with authorities alleging he used a knife as a deadly weapon. Peruvian police released a video showing him handcuffed, wearing a shirt bearing the Interpol insignia. Extradition to the United States is expected to take several months, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Their three children were located in Peru on Aug. 16 and placed into protective custody. District Attorney Nathan Hochman described the allegations as “horrific” and emphasized that domestic violence devastates communities and families. Authorities say Cabrera killed his wife at their Lancaster home, north of Los Angeles, before fleeing with the children. Sheylla Cabrera had been reported missing on Aug. 12, and her body was discovered the following day in Angeles National Forest. Security footage shows Cabrera dragging what officials described as “a large object in a large piece of material” from their apartment complex—the same type of material in which Sheylla Cabrera’s body was later found.
