Ibom Air Denies Releasing Viral Video of Passenger Stripped Naked on Flight

Ibom Air has categorically denied any involvement in the release of a viral video showing a passenger stripped naked aboard one of its flights, describing the incident as unfortunate and contrary to the airline’s values.

In a statement to the press on Tuesday, Aniekan Essienette, Group Manager for Marketing and Communications at Ibom Air, clarified that while the video was recorded on one of the airline’s planes, it was not released by Ibom Air. “The video was recorded on the plane, but there were several people on board who were not Ibom Air employees. Anyone could have taken it,” Essienette said. “I can tell you categorically that Ibom Air did not release the video. We do not condone such indecent exposure, and it is unfortunate that the video has gone viral.”

The viral footage, which has sparked widespread outrage on social media, allegedly shows a passenger being stripped naked during an altercation on a recent Ibom Air flight. The airline did not disclose further details about the incident, including the circumstances leading to the altercation or the identities of those involved, citing an ongoing investigation.

Essienette emphasized that Ibom Air is cooperating with relevant authorities to investigate the matter and urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information. “We are committed to ensuring the safety and dignity of all our passengers. This incident does not reflect our standards, and we are taking appropriate steps to address it,” she added.

The airline has called for restraint in sharing the video, noting its potential to further violate the privacy of those involved. Ibom Air also assured passengers that it is reviewing its onboard protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The incident has raised concerns about passenger conduct and privacy on Nigerian flights, with social media users calling for stricter regulations and accountability. Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the matter, and the investigation remains ongoing.
