 Nicole Kidman recalls the heartbreaking moment she found out her mom died Nicole Kidman has opened up about the heartbreaking moment she learned of her mother Janelle’s death just as she was about to accept a best actress award at the Venice International Film Festival.  The Babygirl star recalled being backstage when she received the news, saying she returned to her room “completely devastated” and unsure how she would move forward without her mother, who had been such a central part of her life. She described the “harrowing” attempt to leave Venice in the middle of the night to return to Australia, only to turn back, overwhelmed and alone.  Director Halina Reijn later read a statement on Kidman’s behalf, dedicating the award to Janelle and acknowledging the collision of art and life in that painful moment.  Man sentenced to life in prison for killing New Jersey pastor

Rashid Ali Bynum, 31, of Portsmouth, Virginia, was sentenced Monday to life in prison for the fatal shooting of New Jersey pastor Eunice Dwumfour outside her home in 2023. The courtroom in New Brunswick was filled with Dwumfour’s family and friends as the sentence was handed down. Bynum’s attorney has indicated plans to appeal the murder and weapons convictions.

Dwumfour, 30, was ambushed in her vehicle on Feb. 1, 2023, as she arrived at her apartment in Sayreville, where she also served as a council member. She was active in a Nigerian church, Champions Royal Assembly, and had married a fellow pastor in Abuja just weeks before her death. Prosecutors said Bynum had previously lived with Dwumfour and her child before returning to Sayreville and shooting her 14 times. He had been recruited into the church and a Bible study group that Dwumfour founded when they both lived in Virginia. Bynum later moved away after a falling out with the church. A jury convicted him in June following a month-long trial.
