 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC).  Mogalakwena municipality denies fake corruption claims against Premier Ramathuba


The Mogalakwena Local Municipality in Limpopo has dismissed social media allegations linking Premier Phophi Ramathuba and Cooperative Governance MEC Basikopo Makamu to alleged corrupt transactions worth millions of rands


The claims, posted under the name of municipal manager Morris Maluleka, alleged that the pair were involved in questionable dealings with certain companies.


In a media statement released on its official Facebook page, the municipality clarified that Maluleka had no connection to the posts. Mayor Ngoako Tauetsoala said Maluleka does not have a Facebook account and has distanced himself from the allegations.


Tauetsoala described the social media posts as “faceless cyberbullying” and “unfounded,” condemning them as fake and malicious. He added that the matter has been escalated to law enforcement authorities.


Meanwhile, the Limpopo provincial government has also rejected the claims, saying the allegations against the premier are not only baseless but also from part of a deliberate smear campaign.
