 Anambra Government Reaffirms Mega City Drive, Demolishes Scores of Illegal Structures By Ruth Orji  The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to the ongoing regeneration drive and restoration of sanity across the state through enforcement exercises and demolition of illegal structures statewide. The exercise was led by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu, on July 8, in line with the Physical Planning Law of Anambra State. Stating that it is no longer business as usual, the commissioner urged residents to take every notice received from the ministry seriously and comply promptly with planning regulations henceforth. He, however, said several eviction notices had been served but were taken with a pinch of salt, adding that demolitions followed because structures defaced the environment or obstructed pedestrian walkways.  Niger Suspends Exports of Precious Stones and Meteorites


The aim of the ban, according to a decree signed by President Abdourahamane Tiani, is "to preserve national natural resources, promote their processing, and ensure the traceability of their exploitation."


While the duration of the suspension has not been specified, the decree also includes semi-precious stones, Sputnik reported.


However, exemptions may be granted "on a case-by-case basis, in the interest of the country."


At the end of July, Nigerien authorities opened an investigation into the sale of a Martian meteorite for $5 million at an auction in New York. The 24.5-kilogram meteorite was discovered in Niger's Agadez region in 2023.
