 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  POLICE NAB EX-CONVICT FOR SUSPECTED CULTISM, RECOVER GUN HIDDEN IN TOILET PIPE


Operatives of Ijede Division of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested a suspected cultist/armed robber and recovered a locally made firearm.

On 18th August, 2025, the operatives received complaints that an individual was brandishing a locally made gun and threatening members of the public at Sabon Kasuwa area of Abule Eko. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the operatives traced the suspect, one Onamade Kayode ‘m,’ to an uncompleted building, where he was arrested.


Investigations revealed that the suspect, who was released from prison in 2022 for cultism related offences, is still an active member of a cult group. 

He admitted to having a firearm and led the operatives to a toilet pipe within the uncompleted building from where the firearm was recovered. The suspect is currently cooperating with ongoing investigations to apprehend other cult members and recover weapons in their possession after which he will be prosecuted accordingly.


The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, commended the operatives of Ijede Division for their professionalism and prompt response, which led to the arrest and recovery.

He urges members of the public to remain law-abiding, avoid involvement in cultism and armed robbery, and continue to provide the Police with useful information to rid communities of criminal elements.
