 HERDSMEN KILL DRIVER ON HUMANITARIAN MISSION IN TARABA STATE  10th January, 2026      A commercial driver, Mr. Amishe Omeny, has been killed by suspected Fulani herdsmen while on a humanitarian visit to a displaced community in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State. The deceased, from Tse Amise after Tseem, was reportedly attacked on Friday within Chanchanji Ward as he travelled to Adokia, a displaced settlement located after Tseem Sabe. He was said to have gone to the area to assist villagers with the transportation of foodstuffs. Sources in the community told Benue Info-pedia, that Omeny volunteered his services as a driver to support residents affected by ongoing insecurity, when he was ambushed and killed by the assailants. The killing has sparked grief and outrage among residents, who described the incident as tragic and senseless.  Rep Ikwechegh Defies Recall Threats Over Endorsement of Gov. Otti’s Re-election


The member representing Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. Alex Ikwechegh, has dismissed threats by a group to initiate a recall process against him for endorsing Governor Alex Otti’s re-election bid in 2027. The lawmaker, elected under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), insisted that his support for Otti reflects the developmental strides witnessed in Abia State and will not be swayed by opposition.


Speaking through his Senior Media Director, George Ezeikpe, in Aba on Monday, August 18, 2025, Ikwechegh maintained that he committed no offense by acknowledging the truth about Governor Otti’s achievements. “What sin has Honourable Ikwechegh committed for saying the truth about what the Governor has done?” Ezeikpe stated. He emphasized that the lawmaker remains unfazed by the recall threats, asserting that Ikwechegh continues to enjoy robust support from constituents in Aba North and South.


The recall threat stems from a group known as the Aba Ngwa Indigenous Movement, which criticized Ikwechegh for endorsing Otti during a gathering organized by the Old Bende People. In a statement signed by Rowland Ajuzieogu, Adimchinobi Nwaigwe, and Jamike Ikonne, among others, the group argued that the lawmaker’s stance does not represent the interests or mandate of Aba North and South constituents. They demanded that Ikwechegh convene an urgent town hall meeting to explain his position or face a recall process.


In response, Ezeikpe described the threats as baseless and a distraction, noting that Ikwechegh’s endorsement was rooted in the visible progress in Aba, including improved infrastructure, economic revitalization, and enhanced security. “The developmental and economic realities in Aba Federal Constituency and other parts of Abia are clear for all to see. Honourable Ikwechegh will not be crucified for speaking the truth,” Ezeikpe added.


Political analysts in Abia suggest that the controversy highlights the growing tensions ahead of the 2027 elections. Ikwechegh’s defiance signals his confidence in his constituency’s support, as he continues to align with Otti’s vision for Abia’s development. The lawmaker is expected to maintain his legislative duties in Abuja while addressing local concerns, with no immediate plans for a town hall meeting announced.
