 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.  Massive Manhunt Launched After Prisoner Escapes Custody in Thohoyandou


The Police in Thohoyandou, under the Vhembe District, have launched a massive manhunt for an awaiting-trial prisoner, Muluvhu Gumani (34), who allegedly escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025, at around 08:50.


Gumani was initially arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. Preliminary reports indicate that police were transporting thirteen awaiting-trial prisoners to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court when the incident occurred. At a traffic light intersection, one of the suspects allegedly forced open the police vehicle door and fled on foot.


Police have appealed to members of the community not to attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves for safety reasons.


Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the escapee is urged to contact Detective Captain Sydney Dama on 082 469 1035.
