  A manhunt is underway for man who shot a Granite City Police Officer multiple times. Officers in Granite City, Illinois, responded to a call regarding a unwanted subject near the 2000 block of Johnson Road at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, December 5th. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect opened fire on officers before fleeing the scene.  Unfortunately, one officer was struck multiple times. The officer was rushed to a St. Louis University Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.  A massive manhunt is now underway to locate the suspect. Authorities warn the public that the man is considered armed and dangerous.  Massive Manhunt Launched After Prisoner Escapes Custody in Thohoyandou


The Police in Thohoyandou, under the Vhembe District, have launched a massive manhunt for an awaiting-trial prisoner, Muluvhu Gumani (34), who allegedly escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025, at around 08:50.


Gumani was initially arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. Preliminary reports indicate that police were transporting thirteen awaiting-trial prisoners to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court when the incident occurred. At a traffic light intersection, one of the suspects allegedly forced open the police vehicle door and fled on foot.


Police have appealed to members of the community not to attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves for safety reasons.


Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the escapee is urged to contact Detective Captain Sydney Dama on 082 469 1035.
