 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results.  Massive Manhunt Launched After Prisoner Escapes Custody in Thohoyandou


The Police in Thohoyandou, under the Vhembe District, have launched a massive manhunt for an awaiting-trial prisoner, Muluvhu Gumani (34), who allegedly escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025, at around 08:50.


Gumani was initially arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. Preliminary reports indicate that police were transporting thirteen awaiting-trial prisoners to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court when the incident occurred. At a traffic light intersection, one of the suspects allegedly forced open the police vehicle door and fled on foot.


Police have appealed to members of the community not to attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves for safety reasons.


Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the escapee is urged to contact Detective Captain Sydney Dama on 082 469 1035.
