 LASG PRESENTS STAFF OF OFFICE TO NEW ONIȘẸ OF ISE KINGDOM The Lagos State Government has presented the Staff of Office and Instrument of Appointment to Prince Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu, as His Royal Majesty, Alaiyeluwa Oba Ibrahim Adebowale Saliu, the Onise of Ise Kingdom in Lekki Local Government Area. The presentation was performed on Friday, August 21, 2026, by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, alongside the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, with the approval of the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos State Executive Council, following the demise of the late Oba Ganiu Adebowale Adegbesan, Onise of Ise Kingdom.  Mother and Three Children Drown During Cleansing Ritual in Mamelodi Quarry Dam


A family cleansing ritual turned into a tragedy on Sunday evening when a mother and her three adult children drowned in the Delfie Quarry Dam in Pienaarsport, Mamelodi, Gauteng.


According to police reports, a 51-year-old woman, her 36-year-old daughter, and two sons in their twenties entered the dam as part of a traditional cleansing ritual. Sadly, they never resurfaced.


The alarm was raised by a seven-year-old girl, the youngest member of the family, who did not take part in the ritual. She alerted others when the four failed to come out of the water.


The South African Police Service (SAPS) diving unit was immediately called to the scene. On arrival, divers recovered the bodies of the mother and daughter floating on the surface. However, due to the dam’s depth and poor visibility, the two sons could not be found on Sunday.


The recovery operation resumed on Monday, 04 August 2025, and divers managed to retrieve the remaining two bodies.


Boschkop police have opened an inquest docket and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic drowning.
