Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London.  Sri Lanka’s former president Wickremesinghe hospitalised following arrest, media reports

Sri Lanka’s former president, Ranil Wickremesinghe, was hospitalised on Saturday, local media reported, a day after his arrest over allegations of misusing public funds during his time in office.

The 76-year-old, who led the country through a severe economic crisis, was taken into custody on Friday. He was admitted to the emergency care unit at Colombo National Hospital the following day with complications related to dehydration, diabetes, and high blood pressure, hospital director Dr. Rukshan Bellana said. Wickremesinghe was later moved to the intensive care unit, where his condition was reported as stable.

Requests for comment from Wickremesinghe’s office and the hospital were not immediately answered. The former president, a six-time prime minister who lost the presidency last year, had been under investigation for a trip to Britain to attend a graduation lunch celebrating his wife’s honorary professorship, local media reported. An ally from his United National Party called the case politically motivated and maintained Wickremesinghe’s innocence.
