 Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, OFR, has approved 100 hectares of land within the Abia Airport Project Site for the Nigerian Air Force to build its training base in Abia State. The Nigeria Air Force had requested an expansion of the 50 hectares of land already earmarked for its training base at the Abia Airport Project Site.  Governor Otti gave the approval on Tuesday, March 10th, in his office while receiving a delegation of the Nigeria Air Force (NAF), Ground Training Command led by the Commander, Air Vice Marshal Adebayo Gabriel Kehinde, who called on him. "The partnership is such that Abia State Government is handling the runway, and the Federal Government is handling the Airport Terminal.  "We expect the runway to be ready very soon. THE DECREE ANNOUNCED LATE MONDAY SAID THE CONCESSION WOULD BE TRANSFERRED TO LOCAL STATE-BACKED FIRM NIMBA MINING SA.(PHOTO).

 The decree announced late Monday said the concession would be transferred to local state-backed firm Nimba Mining SA.


Neither EGA nor GAC responded immediately to a request for comment.


EGA has been in a dispute with the government of Guinea since October last year when its bauxite exports and mining operations were suspended by the authorities.


It said in March that the suspension of its activities in Guinea resulted in a decline of exports from 14.1 million wet metric tonnes of bauxite in 2023 to 10.8 million wet metric tonnes in 2024.
