Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  Tragic Stabbing at University of Venda Leaves First-Year Student Dead, Boyfriend in Custody


In a shocking incident that has rocked the University of Venda (Univen) community, a first-year female student was stabbed to death in an off-campus residence, allegedly by her boyfriend, another student at the institution. 


The 20-year-old victim, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree in language practice, was found with multiple stab wounds to her upper body. The suspect, a 20-year-old second-year Bachelor of Environmental Sciences student, was arrested for murder and is currently under police guard in a medical facility after injuring himself while attempting to flee.


According to eyewitness accounts and university statements, the couple entered their shared residence in good spirits on Friday afternoon, showing no visible signs of distress or conflict. 


However, just minutes later, screams and loud noises emanated from their locked room, alerting nearby residents and prompting a swift response from campus security. Upon forcing entry into the room, security personnel discovered the young woman lying in a pool of blood, unresponsive and later declared dead at the scene. Two knives believed to have been used in the attack were recovered from the room.


In a desperate bid to escape, the suspect reportedly jumped from the second floor of the building, sustaining injuries in the process. He was immediately apprehended by authorities and taken into custody.
