 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity. The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, *CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD*, has condemned in the strongest terms the heartless and barbaric act which is currently trending in the social media. This follows a trending video of a tragic incident involving the abduction of a young boy and his two sisters in the State, which led to the cruel murder of the boy by suspected kidnappers.


The *CP* while condoling with the grieving family as well as the good people of Amansea, ordered the Operatives of the State Intelligence Department to identify the survivor to assist the Police in its Investigation. The Command urges members of the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative by providing credible information that will aid the swift arrest of the suspects. 


The *CP* reiterated the Command's resolve to remain firm in the fight against kidnapping and other violent crimes in the State. He further assured that the Command will continue to prioritize the protection of every citizen in line with the constitutional responsibility of safeguarding lives and property.
