 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  UTSEV HONOURS SUPER FALCONS STAR FRANCISCA ORDEGA FOR WAFCON WIN

The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Engr. Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, on Friday congratulated Benue-born Super Falcons player, Miss Francisca Ordega, on Nigeria’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).


Ordega, who was received in the Minister’s office in Abuja alongside the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah, was celebrated for her contribution to Nigeria’s historic win securing the WAFCON trophy for a record tenth time.


Speaking during the visit, Prof. Utsev praised the Super Falcons for their exceptional performance, describing the team’s success as a result of hard work, determination, and teamwork. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support to the team, including the conferment of national honours and generous rewards to boost their morale.


“I am particularly proud that a daughter of Benue is among the champions who made Nigeria proud. As a Ministry, we are proud to associate with her success and will continue to support and encourage young people in Benue to excel in their careers,” the Minister stated.


In her response, Miss Ordega expressed gratitude for the warm reception and honour accorded to her. She thanked Prof. Utsev whom she referred to as “a brother and uncle” the people of Benue, President Tinubu, and the entire nation for their support.


She also urged the Minister to invest more in sports development in Benue State to help discover and nurture emerging talents.


The meeting ended on a celebratory note, with photographs and applause in honour of Ordega and the victorious Super Falcons.
