Brandon Steele Jr. was fishing with 3 friends at a private pond in Georgia on August 24th when the awful incident occurred.
The 4 friends were fishing in two separate boats. As the friends fished, the second boat that was not carrying Brandon, began to take on water and started sinking. As his two friends struggled in the water, Brandon made his way over to them in his boat in an attempt to affect a rescue.
As the two individuals in the water scrambled to get aboard Brandon's boat, they inadvertently caused the vessel to capsize.
This left all four individuals in the water. However, one friend was able to swim to shore and call for help. The other two friends were able to stay afloat until they were rescued.
Sadly, after entering the water, Brandon slipped below the surface. His body was recovered at 4:30 p.m. on the evening of August 24th by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, four hours after slipping below the surface.
Brandon, who leaves behind 3 young children, is remembered as a wonderful young man who was quick with a joke or to help anyone in need. His family would like him to be remembered as a hero whose final selfless act cost him his own life.
Our thoughts are with all of his loved ones.
