A 9th grade Utah student snuck a firearm on a school field trip, then used it to take his own life in front of his classmates.

Students from Canyon View Junior High were enjoying a day at South Fork Park as part of a school field trip when the unthinkable happened.

Unbeknownst to faculty and students alike, one young man had smuggled a pistol with him to carry out the heartbreaking plan.

At approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th, the unidentified 9th grade student took out the hidden weapon and used it on himself, as students and faculty watched in horror.

The student was flown to a nearby hospital where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The incident is under investigation and has left fellow classmates and parents wondering how this could happen and why.

Many students who witnessed this incident have been left traumatized.

The school is offering counseling for any student or faculty member who is struggling to cope with the incident.

Our thoughts are with the family of the young man and all of the students who witnessed this awful event. Our thoughts are also with the entire community.
