A Court Rules Against the Legitimacy of Prof. Pat Utomi's Formation of a Shadow Government.

The Abuja division of the Federal High Court has ruled that Prof. Pat Utomi's proposal to form a shadow government in Nigeria is illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional.

Justice James Omotosho issued the ruling during the delivery of a verdict on a case brought by the Department of State Services against Pat Utomi.

Judge Omotosho issued an order preventing Pat Utomi and his colleagues from moving forward with their intention to form a shadow government or cabinet within the country.

Justice Omotosho declared the concept of shadow government or that of any cabinet as unconstitutional and an alien concept to the nation's presidential system of government.

The court determined that Utomi and his associates cannot use their rights to association and government criticism as a shield for participating in illegal activities.

They praised the plaintiff for bringing the lawsuit and noted, among other points, that it was the prerogative of the DSS to take measures aiming to avert actions that could jeopardize the country's internal security.
