 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  First Lady Condoles With Arise News Media Over The Death Of Somtochukwu Maduagwu


Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has expressed sadness over the unfortunate and untimely death of a staff of Arise News Media, Somtochiukwu Maduagwu.


In a condolence message, she describes Somtochukwu as one of the nation’s young and brilliant minds in the journalism profession, noting that it was  painful to see her life cut short in her prime.


While condoling with the Chairman, Arise News Media, Chief Nduka Obaigbena, Somtochukwu’s  family, friends,  colleagues, and loved ones, the First Lady expresses hope that the perpetrators are apprehended as soon as possible and brought to book.


She prays God to grant repose to the soul of the deceased and gives her family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
