 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results. IGP COMMENDS DEPOWA PRESIDENT FOR INTRODUCING FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO CHILDREN OF FALLEN HEROES.


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, has commended the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA) for introducing a landmark initiative to provide full scholarships to children of fallen heroes. The IGP gave the commendation while receiving a courtesy visit from DEPOWA to the Force Headquarters, Abuja.


The President of DEPOWA, Mrs. Oghogho Musa who led other members of the association on the visit themed “Thank You to Our Troops” explained that the scholarship would commence with the commissioning of DEPOWA Future Leaders Academy scheduled for September 2026. She further explained that the scholarship would benefit children of fallen heroes and also bolster national cohesion by admitting children from surrounding communities. Mrs. Musa also appreciated the Inspector-General of Police and praised the sacrifices of police officers in combating violent crimes and contributing to international peacekeeping.


While responding, the IGP reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting life and property, maintaining public order, and safeguarding democracy. IGP Egbetokun emphasized that the NPF remains resolute in fulfilling its constitutional mandate while drawing strength from the support of stakeholders such as DEPOWA and other affiliate associations.
