 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC). "We have made a collective decision: no electricity, no vote," said community leader Lesiba Rankapole, 59. "We know it is illegal, but we had no choice because we cannot live without electricity.  Lagos Teachers Set Guinness World Record 


Oluwaseyi Anifowose officially holds the world's record for organizing the Largest Gathering of Teachers in the World in Lagos.


Convener of the Let There Be Teachers Conference 2025, says the programme was born out of a deep conviction to create a global platform that to spotlight the real challenges facing the teaching profession. 


According to the event coordinator 90% of the teachers were from Lagos because they lacked funds to bring in teachers from outside the state as originally intended.


The historic initiative was not merely an attempt to break a record; it was a bold call to action — to celebrate teachers, amplify their voices, and compel stakeholders to commit to more meaningful reforms.


Oluwaseyi Anifowose has years of experience in teacher's training and capacity development.

GWR has not posted the feat on its social media platforms, Anifowose's confirmation was done via a virtual presentation.
