 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  Netherlands Striker Bas Dost Retires Two Years After Suffering Cardiac Arrest


Former Netherlands striker Bas Dost has ended his playing career nearly two years after suffering a cardiac arrest on the field during a Dutch top-flight game, the 36-year-old told the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper in an interview published on Friday.


Dost, a former VfL Wolfsburg, Sporting and Eintracht Frankfurt forward, was playing for NEC Nijmegen when he collapsed on the pitch at AZ Alkmaar in October 2023. He was rushed to hospital and the game was later abandoned.


The Dutchman said he was aiming to play again before doctors detected further complications with his health this year.


"I was allowed to jog on the treadmill, which was so cool. Until I got a call from the cardiologist in June. They had detected 'something' during a training session. That moment changed everything," Dost was quoted as saying.


"I thought, I don't want this. You don't want to gamble with your life. I thought about it for two weeks and then made the decision."
