 UN says 53 Congolese refugees have died in Burundi More than 50 refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have died in neighbouring Burundi, the United Nations Refugee Agency told Reuters late on Friday. Of a total 53 deaths recorded, 25 people died due to a cholera outbreak, the agency said, while six others died from anemia and other complications related to malnutrition, it said. The U.N. said it was working with the health ministry and other partners to investigate the cause of the other deaths. More than 100,000 Congolese have sought refuge in Burundi since fighting near the border intensified in early December and rebels seized the town of Uvira, the UNHCR said. Jean Jacques Purusi, governor of South Kivu province where Uvira is located, described the situation in Burundi as "misery" and "a crisis completely forgotten by the international community and media."  PRESIDENT TINUBU CONGRATULATES CHIEF OF KAGORO UFUWAI BONET AT 90 


President Bola Tinubu has congratulated His Royal Highness, Dr Ufuwai Bonet, the Chief of Kagoro, on his 90th birthday.


This is contained in a statement by Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President, Information and Strategy. It adds that Dr Bonet is a first-class chief and deputy chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs and Emirs.


President Tinubu joins the people of Kagoro Chiefdom, the government and the people of Kaduna State, as well as friends and well-wishers, to celebrate the monarch on this milestone.


The President salutes the revered royal father for his contributions to peace in his domain and Southern Kaduna, noting the monarch's commitment to community development, cultural revival, and preservation since ascending the throne in 2008.


"Your Royal Highness has shown character, discipline, and a commitment towards peace and security, not just in your domain but in the entire Kaduna State. Please keep up the good work," President Tinubu states.


The President prays for Dr Bonet's continued good health and strength. It concludes.
