Sadly, Gage Broomall, a sophomore at Odessa College, collapsed during cross country practice on Thursday, September 4th.
Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Gage did not survive.
There is no information on a cause of death at this time.
This tragedy comes only weeks after another shocking track and field related death in Texas.
On August 19th, 15-year-old Estafani Cabrera also passed away during cross country practice in Marshall, Texas.
According to reports, Estafani had just completed a 2 mile run during practice when she collapsed and possibly suffered a seizure. The heat index was 110 degrees in Marshall on August 19th.
First responders arrived on scene at 4:05 p.m. and found Estafani unconscious and unresponsive. Estafani was rushed to a nearby hospital but was later transferred to Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport, where she sadly passed away.
Both victims were well liked students and are remembered by friends and peers as great people. Our thoughts are with both families who lost their children under such unforseen circumstances.
