 “No electricity, no vote,” South Africans threaten to shun ruling party ANC Residents in Katlehong, a township outside Johannesburg, have resolved to boycott South Africa's upcoming local elections on November 4 due to long-standing failures by authorities to provide basic services like electricity. For over 20 years, around 180 households in the community have relied on illegal electrical connections pulled from neighboring areas to power their homes. Angry over the lack of formal grid infrastructure, residents are directing their frustration at the ruling African National Congress (ANC).  3 ARRESTED OVER KIDNAP, MURDER OF FAVOUR ANZAKU IN LAFIA

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with the abduction and murder of Miss Favour Anzaku, a resident of Ombi Anzaku in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.


In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, said two of the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation.


According to Nansel, members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) apprehended two suspects — Dahiru Aliyu and Sayyadi Abubakar — and handed them over to the police on Sunday.


He added that the police tactical unit, acting on intelligence from the duo, arrested another suspect, Abdulmumuni Isah of Angwan Nunku area, Lafia. Isah later led operatives to a location where a locally made rifle, five live cartridges, and the knife used to stab the victim were hidden.


Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Jauro Mohammed, commended the VGN and the police operatives for their swift action and collaboration. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to support the fight against crime in the state.


Miss Favour Anzaku succumbed to injuries on Sunday, October 4, while receiving treatment at the hospital after being stabbed by her abductors during the attack.
