 Algeria arrests 61 Moroccans over alleged sabotage plot Algerian authorities announced they have arrested 61 Moroccan nationals earlier this month on suspicion of planning "acts of sabotage". In a statement carried by public media on Sunday, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) referred to "an international Moroccan criminal network" but did not provide details of the alleged plots. The 61 people, including a former soldier in the Moroccan army, "were preparing to commit acts of sabotage undermining security and public order", the DGSN said, AFP reported. It added that the suspects had entered Algeria via mountain trails from neighbouring Tunisia. Diplomatic strains Relations between Algeria and Morocco have been strained for years, and their shared land border has been closed since 1994. In 2021, Algiers decided to sever diplomatic relations.  Air China plane catches fire mid-flight, lands safely in an emergency

An Air China flight headed to Seoul was forced to make an emergency landing on Saturday after a fire broke out in an overhead bin, causing panic among passengers. The plane, carrying 160 people including crew, had departed from Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport around 9:50 a.m. when a lithium battery in a passenger’s carry-on bag ignited.

Smoke filled the cabin as crew members rushed to extinguish the flames. The aircraft was diverted to Shanghai Pudong International Airport, where it landed safely with no injuries reported. Authorities have not determined what triggered the battery to catch fire. Lithium batteries, commonly used in phones, laptops, and chargers, have been banned from certain flights in China due to fire risks, and millions have been recalled globally over the years for safety concerns.
