No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

‘Don’t despair, PDP will rise again’ – Makinde tells party members

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to remain steadfast despite the recent wave of defections rocking the party, assuring them that the current challenges are temporary and that the PDP will emerge stronger.

Makinde made the remarks on Monday in Abuja during the inauguration of the PDP National Convention Transportation Subcommittee, which he chairs. He encouraged party members not to lose faith, saying the difficulties the PDP is facing will ultimately strengthen it ahead of future elections.

“Although this period may seem tough, it’s a phase that will pass. When something lasting is being built, it often gets worse before it gets better. So, let us remain committed and united,” Makinde said.

The governor emphasized that the PDP remains a truly national party, noting that it has members in every ward across Nigeria. He urged supporters to “hold their corner” for the party and resist discouragement over ongoing defections.

In recent months, several high-profile figures have dumped the PDP to join rival political groups. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Senate President David Mark, and former presidential aspirant Dele Momodu are among those who have reportedly aligned with the opposition coalition led by the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Also, some key PDP governors, including Akwa Ibom’s Umo Eno, Delta’s Sheriff Oborevwori, and the party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa , have reportedly defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

There are also indications that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, and Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri, might switch allegiance to the APC before the party’s National Elective Convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Addressing the situation, Makinde said defections do not spell the end for the PDP, but rather an opportunity to rebuild with renewed purpose and authenticity.

He said, “This is the time when genuine heroes will emerge, not just for the PDP, but for Nigeria as a whole. It’s not the time for despair or self-doubt; it’s the time to stand up and be counted.”

Makinde also expressed confidence that the upcoming convention would produce capable and visionary leaders who can restore Nigerians’ faith in the PDP and the country.

“I’m holding my corner, trusting the leadership we will enthrone. No matter how small your assignment, do it diligently, it will all add up to our collective success,” he said.

Reflecting on his previous service as Secretary of the PDP National Convention Organising Committee in 2021, Makinde said he accepted the role of Chairman of the Transportation Subcommittee as part of his continued commitment to the party.

He explained that the subcommittee’s role is crucial to ensuring the smooth movement of delegates and supporters from all parts of the country to Ibadan for the convention.

“Our work begins before they even leave home, the success of the convention will depend on the efficiency and dedication we put into our task,” he noted.

Makinde added by urging party members to treat their assignments as acts of sacrifice toward restoring the PDP’s original vision and putting Nigeria back on the path of progress.
