Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive.  FLOOD ALERT: COMMUNITIES ALONG BANKS OF RIVERS NIGER AND KADUNA TO MOVE TO SAFER GROUNDS - NSEMA 


The Nigerian Hydrological Services has advised Communities along River Niger and Kaduna to relocate to safer grounds already identified.


The Agency's warning is coming as a result of discharge of  water from Kainji, Shiroro, Zungeru and Jebba hydro Dams located in Niger state.


A statement by the Director General Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Abdullahi Baba Arah indicate that the Dams are releasing thousands of gallons of water per minute that could lead to the overflow of these Rivers.


Communities  along the banks of the two rivers are therefore advised to limit  activities around those  axis  during this period to avoid being flooded.  


NiMeT  latest prediction indicated that the end of raining season  will be accompanied by violent windstorm as such people should avoid standing under trees during rainfall and also avoid substandard structures. 


The Niger state is already experiencing negative impact of the flooding with  houses, farm lands, bridges and  linked roads being washed away in some Local Government Areas  located at up and down stream of the four  Dams rendering many homeless and has affected the socio-economic activities of the communities with record of  loss of lives.
