 NEMA COORDINATES SAR OPS AT THE SCENE OF BUILDING COLLAPSE INVOLVING A THREE STOREY BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT GUDU AREA OF FCT At about 0945hrs on Saturday 16th May, 2026, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) was alerted of a building collapse at Gudu District of FCT.  Critical stakeholders including Federal Fire, FCT Fire, NSCDC, NPF, FRSC and Federal Capital Territory Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) were activated while a response team of NEMA from the Abuja Operations Office led by the Head of Operations Mr Zakari Abubakar  and operatives from AYA Emergency Response Bay (ERAB) were deployed to the scene for quick response and coordination.  A reinforcement team  from NEMA Headquarters led by the Director Search and Response (DSAR) Air Cdre Bature Usman was also on ground to provide necessary backup and supervision. Former MLB All-Star Sandy Alomar Sr., father of Roberto and Sandy Jr., dies at 81

Sandy Alomar Sr., the father of former MLB stars Roberto Alomar and Sandy Alomar Jr., has died at 81. The league confirmed his passing on Monday, following reports from Puerto Rico that the former California Angels player had suffered a medical incident just a week before his 82nd birthday.

Alomar Sr. spent 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, playing for six teams and finishing his career with a .245 batting average, 13 home runs, and 282 RBIs. Known more for his speed than his power, he stole 227 bases during his career. After retiring as a player, he continued his involvement in the sport as a coach for the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies, and New York Mets. Both of his sons achieved notable MLB success: Sandy Jr. was a six-time All-Star over 20 seasons, while Roberto earned 12 All-Star selections and won two World Series titles.
