Hamas agrees to peace deal, sets conditions
Hamas has signaled its willingness to accept President Donald Trump’s proposed peace plan for Gaza, stating it will release all remaining hostages if Israel withdraws from the territory and “proper field conditions are met.” The group emphasized that further negotiations will be required to finalize the agreement.
As part of the deal, Hamas also agreed to transfer administrative control of the Gaza Strip to a Palestinian governing body. The peace proposal, a 20-point plan, was unveiled by Trump during a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on Monday. Hamas confirmed receipt of the plan the same day. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces continue operations in Gaza City, the largest urban area in the Gaza Strip, amid international criticism over the worsening humanitarian crisis. Israel is facing pressure from multiple Western nations, which recognize Palestinian statehood but insist Hamas cannot be part of any future government, a discussion highlighted during last week’s United Nations General Assembly in New York. Netanyahu has reiterated that Israel will not permit an independent Palestinian state.
