 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  LAGOS SHINES AT PRESIDENT'S TEACHERS, SCHOOLS EXCELLENCE AWARDS


Lagos State has made a remarkable impact at the 2025 World Teachers' Day celebration and President's Teacher and Schools Excellence Awards ceremony in Abuja. Two schools and two teachers from Lagos State received awards for their outstanding contributions to education.


The awardees include Odenike Fausat Mobolaji of Elepe Community Junior High School, Ikorodu, Overall Best Administrator, with a N3.5 million cash prize, recognised for exceptional leadership, mentorship, and commitment to school improvement. 


The other is Onike Girls Junior High School, clinching Overall Best Junior School in Nigeria (Public), awarded a school bus for academic excellence, discipline and girl-child empowerment and Eva Adelaja Memorial Girls Senior Secondary School, coming 1st Runner-up, Best Senior Secondary School Category. Also, Adeosun Clement (Lagos Education District VI): 2nd Overall Best Teacher (Junior School Category) Public.


The event's theme, "Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession," highlighted  the importance of teamwork among educators.


Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, emphasised the government's commitment to improving teachers' welfare and promoting collaboration.


Speaking further, he said the Federal Government has implemented initiatives to strengthen teacher cooperation, including the National Teacher Development Policy and Professional Learning Communities.


World Teachers' Day, celebrated annually on October 5, recognises teachers' empowerment, motivation  and role in shaping education's future.
