THREE-MONTHS-OLD INFANT FOUND FOLLOWING ALLEGED CHILD STEALING IN LUSAKA. (PHOTO). #PRESS RELEASE
27-year-old La'Shaun Holloway was handed down a 50-year sentence in connection to the 2019 homicide of a 2-month-old baby girl in his care.
According to court documents, Holloway was watching his baby daughter on the evening of December 20th, 2019. At some point during the evening, family members could hear Holloway "screaming obscenities at the child as he played Xbox", while the baby cried in obvious distress.
Family members reported that the baby abruptly stopped making any sounds at all. A little later in the evening, the child was found unresponsive.
It is unclear why family members did not intervene.
The baby was rushed to the hospital, where it was discovered she was suffering from 26, yes, twenty-six rib fractures (I cannot imagine the pain), a skull fracture with an extensive brain bleed, bruising to her chest wall, and a fractured clavicle. In short, Holloway had brutalized this innocent young child for "getting in the way" of his video gaming.
The baby girl was placed on life support but passed away a few days later. Doctors determined the injuries were the result of purposeful trauma.
Circuit Court Judge Afshin Farashahi, who presided over the trial, sentenced Holloway to fifty years in prison with twenty years suspended, leaving thirty years to serve. I'm surprised the 20 years were suspended.
He will get out when he is 57.
