A major emergency response unfolded in Sacramento Monday night after a REACH Air Medical Services helicopter crashed on Highway 50, closing eastbound lanes.

REACH Air confirmed that multiple crew members were taken to nearby hospitals, though no patient was on board at the time of the crash. Flight-tracking data indicated the helicopter had just taken off from UC Davis Medical Center before the accident occurred.

The California Highway Patrol said it will coordinate with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the crash and determine when the wreckage can be cleared from the freeway. REACH Air Medical Services stated, “We are in the process of determining the details of this situation, as well as the condition of the REACH crew involved.”
