 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country. The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, OON, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora on the occasion of the nation’s 65th Independence Anniversary.


In his message, Ambassador Tuggar noted that Nigeria’s 65 years of nationhood reflect the courage, resilience, and unity of its people in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities for progress. He emphasized that Nigeria has continued to make strides in consolidating democracy, fostering economic growth, and advancing its leadership role within Africa and the international community.


The Minister highlighted that Nigeria’s foreign policy, anchored on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and guided by the 4Ds -Democracy, Development, Demography, and Diaspora remains central to shaping a secure, prosperous, and globally respected nation.


“As we celebrate this milestone,” the Minister stated, “we honour the sacrifices of our founding fathers and reaffirm our commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty, promoting regional stability, and engaging the world with dignity and purpose. Let us remain united in building a Nigeria that delivers peace, progress, and prosperity for all.”


Ambassador Tuggar called on Nigerians everywhere to uphold the values of patriotism, service, and unity, assuring that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to project Nigeria’s interests and image positively across the globe. He further urged Nigerians in the Diaspora to remain good ambassadors of their country, promoting its image and contributing to national development wherever they reside.
