Kaduna businessman drags ex fiancee’s father to court, demands dowry refund A businessman, Nasiru Dayyabu, on Wednesday, dragged the father of his ex-fiance, Mallam Sani Direba, to Shari’a Court II sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna over N260,000 dowry. The complainant had joined Direba in the suit against two brothers demanding a refund of N250, 000 dowry and N10,000 introduction money he paid to marry his daughter. Represented by his counsel, Mr Sani Sunusi, the complainant told the court that he sent his people from Karaye, Kano State to Kaduna in 2025, to seek for the defendant’s daughter’s hand in marriage. “We paid the dowry and the introduction money (kudin gausuwa) and were waiting for them to set a date for the wedding,” he said. “Unfortunately, the lady’s father called to inform us that they have cancelled the marriage.” The counsel said the complainant had asked for the refund of his money since Sept. 2025 but all the efforts he made proved abortive. The Nigeria Police Force regrettably announces the passing of retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande, CFR, OFR, NPM, mni, who died in Benin City on Sunday, 28th September, 2025, a day before his 89th birthday.


DIG Osayande was a distinguished officer who served the Force and the nation meritoriously in various capacities, including as Commissioner of Police in several states, Deputy Inspector-General of Police, and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission between 2008 and 2013. He also chaired key presidential committees on police reform, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, accountability, and courage in service.


The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbtokun, Ph.D, NPM, on behalf of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, commiserates with the family, the Police Service Commission, and associates of the late DIG Osayande, and pays tribute to his invaluable contributions to policing and internal security in Nigeria.


The Nigeria Police Force prays for the peaceful repose of his soul and strength for his family to bear this irreparable loss. Funeral and memorial arrangements will be announced by the family in due course.
