Authorities were called to the Little Tallapoosa Park in Carrol County, Georgia, on September 16th, to the report of 3 children living in a tent... all by themselves.
When authorities arrived on the scene, they discovered a 2, 4, and 5 year old in extremely poor condition. The toddlers were reportedly covered in their own wastes and told authorities they had not eaten in at least two days.
The family had been living at the campsite for an extended time before the parents left the children on their own. Furthermore, the 2-year-old boy suffers from Down Syndrome. His parents had allegedly cut off the child's oxygen and feeding tube, which he requires for brain development and caloric intake.
The children were immediately placed in the care of DCFS.
Police then waited for the parents to return. Upon their return to the campsite, 46-year-old Jason Askea and 41-year-old Kira Askea were taken into custody.
The pair are being charged with cruelty to children with excessive physical or mental pain.
