No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

Penn State dismisses coach James Franklin after midseason collapse in disappointing campaign

James Franklin has been dismissed as head coach at Penn State.

The university made the decision on Sunday, less than a day after a 22-21 home loss to Northwestern effectively ended the Nittany Lions’ slim hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff. Terry Smith will take over as interim coach for the remainder of the season. Penn State (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) began the year with national title aspirations, but those ambitions faded by early October following three consecutive losses, each more damaging than the last.

The team’s slide began with an overtime home defeat to Oregon, followed by a road loss at previously winless UCLA. Saturday’s game at Beaver Stadium against Northwestern proved decisive, not only for the loss itself but also because quarterback Drew Allar suffered a season-ending injury. Franklin finishes his 11-plus seasons at Penn State with a 104-45 record, though the program struggled against top-ranked opponents, going 4-21 versus teams in the top 10.

Franklin was hired in 2014 following Bill O’Brien’s departure to the NFL and guided the program through the aftermath of NCAA sanctions tied to the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Known for his recruiting prowess, Franklin produced NFL talent, including Saquon Barkley and Micah Parsons, led Penn State to the 2016 Big Ten title, and kept the team consistently ranked. Despite hopes for a national championship this season, the Nittany Lions faltered after three initial wins in a light nonconference schedule.

Athletic director Pat Kraft expressed gratitude for Franklin’s contributions, noting the coach is due nearly $50 million in a buyout, but stated it was time for new leadership to push toward Big Ten and national championships. Smith now faces a daunting schedule, with upcoming games at Iowa, at No. 1 Ohio State, and home against No. 3 Indiana—matchups once expected to enhance CFP credentials but now likely to position Penn State as a spoiler.

The coaching change comes amid a $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium, expected to finish by 2027. Franklin had signed a 10-year extension in 2021 worth up to $85 million, meaning Penn State will continue paying his base salary, supplemental pay, and insurance obligations through 2031. Kraft emphasized the program’s strong tradition, significant resources, and state-of-the-art stadium as factors that will attract top coaching candidates.

With connections to coaches like Matt Rhule, who will visit Beaver Stadium with Nebraska in Penn State’s home finale on Nov. 22, the university is poised to find a successor capable of returning the program to championship contention while salvaging the remainder of this difficult season.
