 Resident Doctors Suspend Planned Strike The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD) has suspended its planned nationwide strike, earlier scheduled to commence today Monday 12th of January 2026, Following fresh engagements with the Federal Government, The North-Central caucus of the association announced the suspension after a series of consultations with government representatives, saying the decision was taken in the interest of patients while discussions continue. The caucus leader, Dr Fanen Dogoh, however, said the suspension does not mean the issues that prompted the strike threat have been resolved. The resident doctors had planned to embark on industrial action over the continued failure of the government to honour a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) reached with the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD). Police report German mayor in critical condition following stabbing attack

Iris Stalzer, the newly elected mayor of Herdecke, Germany, was critically injured in a stabbing on Tuesday, authorities said.

Stalzer, 57, a member of Germany’s center-left Social Democratic Party who won the mayoral election in September, was reportedly attacked near her home in North-Rhine Westphalia. She was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz condemned the attack as “heinous,” expressing hope for her recovery. Local police said a major investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the incident, though further details have not been released.

Unconfirmed reports indicated Stalzer’s two teenage children were at home during the attack. The SPD said its members are in a state of deep shock following the incident. The attack comes amid a broader rise in politically and racially motivated crimes in Germany in recent years, including several high-profile killings of public figures.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
