 ASUU–ABSU SUSPENDS THREE-WEEK-OLD INDEFINITE STRIKE The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Abia State University Branch, wishes to inform the University community, all stakeholders and the general public that, following the resolution of Congress held today, Friday, 28th August, 2026, the Branch has suspended its three-week-old comprehensive industrial action with immediate effect. The decision of Congress followed a careful assessment of developments since the commencement of the strike and, particularly, the concrete steps taken towards addressing some of the major issues that necessitated the industrial action. Foremost among these is the full implementation of the 2025 FGN–ASUU salary structure, including the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which has now been reflected in the August 2026 salaries of academic staff of Abia State University.  Home Affairs Employee Convicted of Fraud in Calvinia


The Calvinia Magistrate’s Court has convicted Dawn Celeste Pieterson (45) on nine counts of fraud and two counts of contravening the Birth and Death Registration Act.


The crimes took place between February 2019 and September 2022 while Pieterson was employed at the Department of Home Affairs in Calvinia. As part of her duties, she had access to the national population register, which she abused for personal gain.


Investigations revealed that Pieterson took out funeral policies with reputable insurance companies and listed herself as the beneficiary. To claim the benefits, she falsely registered people as deceased by issuing fraudulent BI-1663 death forms.


The victims, who were still alive, were recorded as deceased in the system, causing severe disruptions in their daily lives.


The case has been postponed to 26 January 2026 for sentencing.

Innoson Gives Out Brand New IVM G5 and Salary For Life To The Man Who Prophesied About His Vehicle Manufacturing In 1979.  Last Saturday, July 22nd the Chairman of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, Chief Dr Innocent Ifediaso Chukwuma OFR gave out a brand new Innoson IVM G5 to Mr Ikechukwu Osakwe popularly known as Osabros who prophesied to him in 1979 that he would be the first man in Africa to manufacture vehicles and sell to different African countries.  The prophecy was given at the period the then Innocent Chukwuma could not boast of a car, talk less of manufacturing one.
