 APC PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ATIKU MUST EXPLAIN THE LEGAL AND FISCAL BASIS OF HIS PETROL SUBSIDY PROPOSAL At his press conference in Abuja on Friday, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar reiterated his proposed  “production subsidy” for locally refined petrol, which he said would reduce pump prices. He went further to ask President Bola Tinubu to slash the cost of diesel and petrol at the pump. That proposal raises important legal, fiscal and practical questions that he must answer. Section 205(1) of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021 provides that unrestricted free-market conditions shall determine wholesale and retail prices of petroleum products. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, in a statement on Saturday, explained that it neither fixes pump prices nor issues administrative price templates, except where the statutory conditions for intervention are met.  Three Underage Girls Among Nine Killed By Bandits In Kaduna’s Birnin Gwari


According to Sahara Reporters, at least nine residents of Layin Danauta village in the Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State were brutally killed by bandits during an attack on Thursday evening. Among the victims were three underage girls, all daughters of one Alhaji Salisu Maiwada.


According to local sources, the bandits launched a coordinated assault on the community around 7 p.m., surrounding the village, blocking all entry and exit routes, and firing indiscriminately.


In addition to the three minors, five married men and a young single man were confirmed dead. About thirteen others sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at nearby medical facilities.


A resident of Birnin Gwari town described the incident as “a well-coordinated and ruthless attack,” adding that several villagers were also abducted.
