Two young boys discovered dead along Brazos River in Texas

Two young boys were found dead Tuesday evening along the Brazos River in North Texas, authorities said.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office reported that a call came in around 6:10 p.m. from Hamm Creek Park near Rio Vista, where the children had been playing near the water. Rescue crews located the boys at approximately 8:30 p.m. and pronounced them dead on the scene. The victims, ages 4 and 7, were later identified by the Johnson County Medical Examiner as Banx McAmis, 4, and Bowyn Miller, 7.

Joshua ISD confirmed that one of the boys, Bowyn Miller, was a student at Plum Creek Elementary, and the district said counseling teams will provide support for students and staff. “Our heartfelt prayers and thoughts go out to the family and community,” the district said.

Multiple agencies, including the departments from Cleburne and Grandview, as well as Texas Game Wardens, assisted in recovering the boys’ bodies. The sheriff’s office expressed condolences to the families and gratitude to all responding agencies, noting the operation was difficult and emotionally taxing. Officials said foul play is not suspected, though the cause of death has not been released. A GoFundMe has been set up to help cover funeral and memorial costs.

A statement from the family described the boys’ personalities and interests: Bowyn loved karate, playing outdoors with his siblings, and video games, while Banx was energetic and adored his Ninja Turtles and playing outside in any weather.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of water safety, urging residents and visitors to supervise children closely, use life jackets, and remain vigilant near open bodies of water.
